January 28, 2004Company plans to build ethanol plant in Garnett Associated Press
GARNETT, Kan. - A Kansas energy company announced plans Tuesday to build an ethanol processing plant in this eastern Kansas town.
East Kansas Agri-Energy had to raise at least $16 million to meet the requirements set by lenders. A flood of last-minute investors put the company above that minimum, chairman Bill Pracht said.
Construction could begin construction on the $36 million plant as early as this spring, Pracht said.
The plant, originally planned to produce 20 million gallons of ethanol per year, will be redesigned to produce 26 million gallons, Pracht said.
It would employ about 30 people and could be further expanded to double its manufacturing capacity.
The Garnett facility would be the seventh ethanol plant in Kansas.
