September 30, 2003U.S. Ethanol Industry Produces Record for August by Julianne Johnston
The U.S. ethanol industry set a production record for August of 180,000 barrels per day (b/d), according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Production was up 32 percent compared to last August when 136,000 b/d of ethanol were produced.
The ethanol industry is expected to produce over 2.7 billion gallons in 2003, up from a record annual production of 2.13 billion gallons in 2002. Currently, 73 ethanol plants have the capacity to produce 2.9 billion gallons annually. Fourteen additional plants are under construction, says the Renewable Fuels Association.
