August 15, 2003It's a great, big ethanol party on the prairie Don't miss this year's ethanol party on the prairie. More than 300,000 folks are expected to attend the Kansas State Fair this year and those fair goers will once again see the KFB "Buy Ethanol" message as they travel throughout the fairgrounds, Sept. 5 to Sept. 14.
Farm Bureau's state fair presence kicks off Sept. 6 with the annual Kansas Farm Bureau Leadership Breakfast, which features the state's largest gathering of elected federal and state officials, volunteer county Farm Bureau leaders and representatives of other farm and ranch advocacy organizations.
Kansas Farm Bureau is continuing its statewide consumer awareness effort of ethanol, the clean-burning crop-based alternative fuel. In partnership with the Hutchinson-based Kwik Shop convenience stores, Kansas Farm Bureau plans ethanol fuel giveaways and ethanol consumer educational displays at the State Fair.
Members should make plans to attend the Kansas Farm Bureau Kwik Shop Ethanol Classic Friday night, Sept. 12, featuring auto races at the Grandstand. The evening race follows the success of last year's Ethanol Classic, which was the first ethanol sprint car race in fair history.
The KFB party doesn't end at the Grandstand. Sept. 9 is Farm Bureau Day at the Fair. Fair goers won't be able to miss Farm Bureau's presence as farmers and ranchers will greet guests at the entrance gates and banners will be displayed on the fairground trams. In addition, volunteer members will patrol the fairgrounds to randomly present member-benefit gifts to fellow FB members wearing Farm Bureau caps, buttons or clothing.
Farm Families of the Year and Century Farm Award recipients also will be honored at a ceremony and program in the 4-H Encampment Building on Sept. 9. For additional information on Farm Bureau activities and entertainment at the Kansas State Fair check out our web site at www.kfb.org or stop by the Farm Bureau office for a Kansas State Fair schedule.
