January 8, 2003Genencor Buys Paris Business Biotechnology firm Genencor International Inc. (Nasdaq: GCOR) Monday said it acquired Paris-based Rhodia's brewing and enzyme business for approximately $9.4 million.
The Palo Alto-based diversified biotechnology, which serves the health care, agri-processing, industrial and consumer markets, said the acquisition includes technology, product lines and personnel. The deal will broaden the company's product portfolio and technical service capabilities in the food, feed and specialty enzyme markets
The acquisition follows Genencor's purchase in February of Enzyme Bio-Systems from Corn Products International, which added growth in key markets including the grain processing, ethanol, specialties and food sectors.
For the nine months ended Sept. 30, 2002, revenue rose 9 percent to $261.9 million. Net income applicable to common shareholders fell 85 percent to $1.2 million. The revenue reflects an increase in fees and royalty income.
