December 23, 2002Farmers Demonstrate Support for Ethanol with Tractors Wisconsin Ag Connection Editors - 12/23/2002
A group of area farmers near Cambria are hoping to make their support obvious for a new ethanol plant. On Saturday, more than 50 people drove their tractors and trucks to the Columbia County village to rally support for the facility, being proposed at the Didion Milling facilities.
The event was organized by Lorraine Hahn, wife of State Rep. Eugene Hahn, who said the demonstration would prove effective to others in the community who oppose the plant.
The plant is being proposed by a group of Columbia and Dodge County farmers who have incorporated to develop to project. The proposed facility would use 14.6 million bushels of corn per year to produce about 40 million gallons of ethanol, plus 128,000 tons of dried distillers grains to be sold as livestock feed and carbon dioxide.
The tractors were in town for about an hour before heading home in the middle of some of the town's busiest streets.
