Fuel Ethanol: A Technological Evolution

Washington, DC - The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) today congratulated the farmer-owners of Badger State Ethanol LLC for the completing construction of Wisconsin’s largest ethanol plant and beginning production. The plant is expected to stimulate more than $100 million in annual economic activity for the region.

“Badger State Ethanol is a prime example of the growth going on in the ethanol industry,” said Bob Dinneen, RFA president. “I congratulate the farmer-owners of Badger State and look forward to working with them in the future.”

Badger State Ethanol LLC, near Monroe, Wisconsin, will process nearly 15 million bushels of corn into 40 million gallons of ethanol annually. In addition to ethanol, the plant produces 120,000 tons of distillers dried grains (DDG). With the construction complete, the plant employs 33 full-time workers.

“We are very pleased with the support the project has received from the local community,” said Gary Kramer, Badger State Ethanol general manager.

John Malchine, Badger State Ethanol board chairman and CEO, added: “A project like this takes a tremendous amount of cooperation from the local community and we look forward to repaying that debt by providing a new market for farmers, dozens of good paying jobs, and a multi-million dollar economic stimulus to this area. In short, we plan to be good neighbors for years to come.”

Fagen, Inc., the Granite Falls, Minnesota design-build contractor, spearheaded the construction and incorporated a process design provided by ICM of Colwich, Kansas.

Currently, 68 ethanol plants nationwide have the capacity to produce 2.65 billion gallons annually. There are 10 additional ethanol plants under construction.
