October 14, 2002Ethanol workshop scheduled Associated Press
BILLINGS – Ethanol Producers And Consumers, a nonprofit ethanol advocacy group, will hold an ethanol workshop Tuesday at the Billings Holiday Inn.
The workshop will focus on agriculture and its role in producing energy. EPAC and the federal Department of Energy worked together in 2001 to conduct workshops in North Carolina and Pennsylvania, says Shirley Ball, of Nashua, president of EPAC.
The federal department initiated the workshops to provide farmers and farm-related agencies and businesses with information on the potential for ethanol production as a way to stimulate rural economic development, Ball says.
The purpose of the workshop is to:
1) Create awareness of ethanol.
2) Create a positive image of ethanol.
3) Facilitate the widespread use of ethanol.
4) Facilitate the establishment of ethanol production plants.
5) To increase the use of ethanol fuels, especially ethanol from cellulose.
EPAC has members in 26 states and three countries.
Agenda topics will include “Ethanol 101" to provide the history of ethanol, which had record-setting growth over the past year. Also on the agenda will be success stories from owners and managers of operating ethanol plants; potential for economic benefits including impacts to the local community; and state legislation and assistance that is needed or available; as well as a discussion of real or perceived barriers to ethanol development and how those can be overcome.
A kickoff banquet will be held Oct. 14 in the Stillwater Room of the Holiday Inn at 5500 Midland Road. Banquet speakers will be Rep. Denny Rehberg and Jon Doggett, vice president of Public Policy for the National Corn Growers Association. Tickets can be obtained by calling 406-785-3722 or by contacting Ball by e-mail at Shirley@ethanolmt.org
Speakers at the workshop include Raphael Katzen of Katzen International, a leading company in producing ethanol from wheat; Bob Dinneen, president of the Renewable Fuels Association of Washington, D.C.; and Dave Mowitz, editor of Successful Farming magazine.
