Adkins nearly on-line

By Tyler Vincent, The Journal-Standard

Adkins Energy LLC, the smallest of Illinois’ five ethanol plants, has completed construction of the plant, located just outside of Lena.

LENA - Located just outside Lena is a plant situated on 50 acres of land, designed to take 13.5 million bushels of corn and turn it into roughly 48 million gallons of ethanol and more than seven million pounds of animal feed every year.

Very soon, and after a lengthy construction process, the Adkins Energy LLC ethanol plant will be doing exactly that.

Adkins, the smallest of Illinois' five ethanol plants, is about 99 percent complete, according to Adkins Board Chairman Scott Trainum "We're in the start-up phase right now," Trainum said.

Trainum said the "starting process" the plant is currently engaged in involves running the equipment of the plant steadily to look for problems with equipment or other small malfunctions. He added that this is common for new plants.

"The starting process can last a couple of days," Trainum said. "I've seen plants that have gotten off to bad starts, and the process took a couple of months."
