April 17, 2002Gas Prices Up 14 Cents From Last Month San Diegans paid an average of $1.69 a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline Tuesday, compared to $1.55 a month ago, the Automobile Club of Southern California reported.
The monthly Fuel Gauge Report put the Southern California average at $1.65 a gallon, up from $1.47 in March. The state average is $1.66 a gallon, compared to $1.45 a month ago.
"While gas prices are still 13 cents lower than they were last year at this time, the combination of price speculation over international uncertainty and a stronger economy have joined to push prices higher in the past month," said Jeffrey Spring of the Auto Club.
With demand somewhat dampened by higher prices, the market is unlikely to push oil prices much higher unless a "specific military or economic activity" actually limits the flow, Spring said.
Nationally, the average price is $1.41 a gallon, with Georgia reporting the lowest state average, at $1.28 a gallon.
