January 3, 2002ETHANOL INDUSTRY ACHIEVES ALL-TIME MONTHLY PRODUCTION RECORD FOR THIRD MONTH IN A ROW Over 126,000 Barrels per Day of Ethanol Produced in November
WASHINGTON, DC -The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) has announced that the U.S. ethanol industry set an all-time monthly production record in November of 126,000 barrels per day (b/d), according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The previous all-time record was set in October of 2001 at 121,000 b/d. Production was up nearly 16 percent over last November when 109,000 b/d of ethanol were produced.
“The tremendous expansion ongoing throughout the U.S. ethanol industry is certainly evident in the production numbers,” said Bob Dinneen, president of the RFA. “The demand for clean-burning, octane-enhancing ethanol is growing. And the ethanol industry is growing along with it. There is a strong desire to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and MTBE. This consumer demand bodes well for farmers and ethanol producers who are eager to fill that demand with home-grown ethanol. Over the next year more than a dozen new plants will come on line and several expansions will be completed.”
The ethanol industry is on pace to produce an annual record of nearly 1.8 billion gallons in 2001. The ethanol industry will also set a new capacity expansion record this year. There are seventeen ethanol plants under construction totaling over 450 million gallons of annual capacity and 58 plants in operation. Dozens of additional plants are in varying stages of development.
