November 23, 2001Southern States Power Co. Voted Full Membership to National Biodiesel Board Southern States Power Co. Inc. has announced that the company has been confirmed full voting membership to the National Biodiesel Board, the premier biodiesel organization and the only national body of biodiesel producers, marketers and consumers.
Full membership affords Southern States Power Co. an array of advantages in fuel certification and acceptance, in addition to fostering support for government recognition of its OXyG biodiesel as an alternative fuel.
CEO Harrison A. McCoy III and President William O. Sheaffer attended the National Biodiesel Board meeting in Washington D.C., and on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, Southern States was voted in as a member of the board. Later in the week, Sheaffer and McCoy met with the staffs of numerous United States Senators and Representatives, including that of Arizona Senator John McCain, Representative J.D. Hayworth, member of the House Ways and Means Committee, and Representative Bob Stump, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.
Additional meetings with the staffs of California congressmen who represent the districts that include SSPC's corporate headquarters and the Coachella Valley Production Facility were held during the Washington visit.
"National Biodiesel Board membership provides the company with full access to the resources of this, the only national biodiesel organization," stated Sheaffer. "We are joining forces with the NBB in support of Senate Bill 1058, which would provide tax incentives for biodiesel as a clean-burning fuel, similar to those currently afforded to ethanol and natural gas," added Sheaffer.
