July 17, 2000All Provisions, Including Ethanol, Stripped from Death Tax Bill Late Thursday evening, in a last ditch effort to try and avoid a promised veto by President Clinton, Senate Majority Leader, Trent Lott stripped all extraneous provisions from the Death Tax Elimination Act. This action squelched earlier hopes of having the ethanol Small Producer Credit clarification passed along with the Bill.
The next best opportunity will be today when the Senate will likely vote on the Marriage Penalty Tax Bill. Senators Grassley (R-IA) and Grams (R-MN) worked over the weekend with Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) to have the ethanol amendment included in the Bill. According to the Renewable Fuels Association, there has still been no opposition to the small producer clarification, so is should be approved again.
