July 14, 2000Small Producer Tax Credit According to the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA), U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) offered an amendment authored by Senator Rod Grams (R-MN) to H.R. 8,the Death Tax Elimination Act. The amendment clarifies the application of the small ethanol producer credit such that it could be utilized more effectively by farmer-owned cooperatives. The Grassley/Grams small ethanol producer tax credit amendment passed the Senate by voice vote – no nays were heard.
The final bill was expected to pass late last night and then differing provisions resolved with the House of Representatives in Conference Committee. “While a long way from completion," said Bob Dinneen of the RFA, "this represents an important first step in making the small producer tax credit workable for farmer-owned cooperatives. Senators Grassley and Grams deserve our deep appreciation.”
