June 25, 2001USDA approves $12.5 mln loan for Iowa ethanol plant An Iowa farm cooperative was authorized to receive a $12.5 million loan for the construction of an ethanol production facility, which will require 6.8 million bushels of corn annually, Agriculture Secretary Ann Veneman said on Friday.
USDA said Quad County Corn Processors' Cooperative has 416 members who have already contributed $8.5 million in equity capital toward an ethanol facility in Galva, Iowa.
USDA estimates the plant, expected to be completed by January 2002, will produce up to 18 million gallons of ethanol per year.
"Upon completion, this project will open new markets for our farmers, bring new forms of energy to the American consumer, and help to meet the growing demand for alternative energy sources," Veneman said in a statement.
