July 5, 2000OPEC: Crude Oil Price Falls with New Production in the Future Crude oil fell 3 percent, extending a decline of almost 5 percent yesterday, as OPEC officials said they would consider a Saudi Arabia-backed plan to raise output for a third time this year.
Iran and the United Arab Emirates, two of the five largest producers in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, said they would discuss the plan to add 500,000 barrels to daily output unless prices fall further. Traders said OPEC nations were trying to force prices lower.
Gore's New Energy Policies
AL Gore has unveiled his new energy policies that would help working families purchase more energy-efficient cars, trucks and homes. Gore would give families up to $6,000 to purchase more fuel-efficient cars and Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs), along with other tax breaks for the purchase of energy-efficient pick-up trucks, 18-wheelers, building equipment and homes. These fuel-efficient vehicles will further reduce the nation’s dependence on foreign oil, helping consumers save money at the pump.
