July 3, 2000MPCA Seeks Comments on Ethanol Plant Expansion In reaction to Heartland Corn Products' proposal for expansion in Winthrop, MN, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has prepared an environmental review and forum for public comment. The MPCA is open to public comment through July 25, 2000.
MPCA said its review, which is known as an environmental assessment worksheet, is designed to evaluate the environmental impacts of
Heartland's proposed expansion. Copies of the report are available locally as well as on the MPCA website, located on the World Wide Web at http://www.pca.state.mn.us/news/eaw/index.html.
Heartland's Winthrop plant uses corn to produce fuel-grade ethanol, carbon dioxide and high protein animal feed. The proposed expansion
would allow Hartland to increase its ethanol production from a current rate of 19 million gallons per year to 35 million gallons per year.
