Pennsylvania (2000 EWS)

Over 90 people attended the Pennsylvania workshop, "Ethanol for a Cleaner, More Prosperous Pennsylvania" held September 19th in Harrisburg. Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Sam Hayes opened the workshop providing information about national ethanol production, environmental significance, markets and potential for in-state production including near-term possibilities using grain and long-term opportunities using cellulose-based feedstocks. Bob Harris, DOE's Special Assistant on the Federal Bioenergy Initiative, spoke about the potential demand for ethanol and the supply of cellulose ethanol to meet the supply. Concurrent sessions were held on new markets for ethanol such as E85 and oxygenated diesel and feedstocks for ethanol production. Bob Dinneen from the Renewable Fuels Association gave an overview of the markets for ethanol and challenged the attendees on whether they prefer to rely on Saddam Hussein or the Pennsylvania farmer.
