"Ethanol
and Idaho: Partners for the Future"
By
John Crockett: Following the January workshop in Boise,
the Idaho Energy Division organized and conducted
two smaller ethanol workshops. On March 8 over 100
people attended an ethanol workshop in small community
of Fruitland in Payette County of southeastern Idaho.
On March 9 about 140 people attended a similar workshop
in Twin Falls in south central Idaho. The workshops
featured David Kolsrud and Ralph Groschen from Minnesota,
as well as several state ethanol experts. On the afternoon
of March 8, David and Ralph also made ethanol presentations
before the joint House and Senate Agricultural Affairs
Committees of the Idaho legislature. Idaho Energy
Division staff has received strong support from all
four of Idaho's Congressional delegation, Governor
Dirk Kempthorne, numerous state legislators, and continues
working closely with Payette and Twin Falls Counties
on feasibility of ethanol production. Two other areas
of the state have also expressed a strong interest
towards the investigation of ethanol plants.
In
a continuing effort to increase ethanol use in state,
Idaho Energy Division has joined in a partnership
with the GSA Fleet Managers. Two GSA workshops are
planned in April to promote ethanol and biodiesel
use by Idaho Federal fleets.
