Ethanol
From Forest Residues
"A
discussion of issues and opportunities associated
with using local residues to make fuel grade ethanol
in Southeast Alaska."
The
purpose of Alaska's second EWS Workshop is to assure
that all people who may be impacted in one form or
another by the construction of a cellulose-ethanol
plant in the area of Ketchikan have the opportunity
to gain a better understanding about it. The Mayors
of both the City of Ketchikan and the Ketchikan Gateway
Borough will speak at the workshop with a message
of welcome to the proposed project. Unique in the
fact that it is also necessary to examine the state
policies for managing wood waste, Alaska's workshop
will look closely at all of the areas that may benefit
or need attention as steps are taken down a path to
a commercial scale ethanol plant. All ethanol is imported
into Alaska at this time and approximately four million
gallons are needed in Anchorage to help reduce and
control the city's carbon monoxide emissions. Why
not produce it within the state, specifically in Ketchikan?
That's exactly the question that will wrap up the
Workshop
Is a Biomass Ethanol Plant Good for
Southeast Alaska? The organizers of the Workshop feel
it is very important to hear the ideas and opinions
of everyone who will be affected. Therefore, a panel
of Southeast Alaska organizations will discuss the
issue with participation by all attendees encouraged.
Cape
Fox Lodge in Ketchikan will be the location for the
Alaska Ethanol Workshop, which will start at 8:30
am and adjourn at 3:00 pm.
