Mark has been with BBI since April 2001. As director of Consulting Services, Mark oversees all aspects of carrying out ethanol feasibility studies and preparing ethanol project business plans. In 2001, Mark’s group completed over 25 feasibility studies and business plans for the growing ethanol industry.

Past Experience:

Prior to joining BBI, Mark was the industrial partnerships team leader for the Biofuels Program at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado. Mark’s NREL duties included identifying and analyzing new opportunities for the application of technologies for the production of ethanol from lignocellulosic biomass. During his nine years at NREL, Mark managed a wide variety of projects including the technical and economic evaluation of converting forest thinnings, wood waste, wheat straw, rice straw and spent brewers grain to ethanol. Mark managed projects with BCI, Arkenol, Masada, HFTA and other lignocellulosic technology companies. Mark has a detailed understanding of ethanol production from both starch and sugar based feedstocks as well as lignocellulosic biomass feedstocks. Mark has 24 years experience in the fields of renewable energy and environmental engineering.

Prior to joining NREL, Mark was a Senior Process Design Engineer for United Engineers and Constructors and Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Mark’s 12 years at PG&E, once the largest investor owned utility company in the country, provides an in depth understanding of power production and the electric utility industry.  

Mark has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University.
