BBI Ethanol Scholarship Fund
The Ethanol Scholarship Fund aims to assist
interested students with their education in the ethanol industry.
- The Fund began in 1999 at the Fuel
Ethanol Workshop in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, when attendees purchased chances to sink
some of their industry colleagues in a dunk tank.
-
2000 - Windsor, Ontario, Canada: proceeds
from betting at the dog races went to the fund.
-
2001 - St. Paul, Minnesota: money was
raised through a Treasure Hunt at the Science Museum.
- 2002 - Springfield, Illinois: tradeshow
exhibitors and workshop participants purchased raffle tickets for a chance at
winning an $800 vacation to the destination of their choice. The winner
was Kevin Flynn of Bridgeton, Missouri. $2050 was
raised through raffle ticket purchases, plus an additional $1000 was
donated to the Fund by Fagen, Inc. Thank you to Fagen and all the
raffle participants!
- 2004 -
Madison, Wisconsin: please join us for the 20th Anniversary Fuel Ethanol
Workshop & Trade Show to find out who will receive 2004 scholarships.
Funding from the scholarships has come largely from individuals in the industry
itself - see the special activities page for the
2004 FEW for information about fundraising events.
Each year BBI International has matched the
contributions, bringing the total in the Fund in 2002 to $4,180. Money in
this Fund helps to educate interested youth so they may become skilled in the
production of ethanol.
The Minnesota West Community and Technical
College in Granite Falls, Minnesota, has developed a curriculum for value-added
production. During the past year, the supporters of the school set up
their own scholarship program. On behalf of the participants of the
International Fuel Ethanol Workshop, BBI International donated $1,000 of the FEW
Scholarship Fund to the school's scholarship program. The Minnesota
Coalition for Ethanol and Fagen, Inc. have worked hard to establish the
curriculum and scholarship program.
