December 1, 2003Studying Biodiesel Students in Illinois will soon be among the first in the country to learn about the benefits of biodiesel fuel.
The state will serve as a pilot state for a new nationwide biodiesel education curriculum. The National Biodiesel Board received a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to develop the lesson plan.
More than 2,000 classrooms across the state are anticipated to take part in the program starting next year.
The National Biodiesel Board's Jenna Higgins says, ''It's an important investment in the future of biodiesel. If we want to make sure that biodiesel is still thriving in 20 years we need to start now educating students about the important role that biodiesel can play in America's energy portfolio.''
The K-through-12 curriculum covers several disciplines and will be aligned to state and national learning standards for easy adaptation in classroom activities.
