July 7, 2003Forum to consider ethanol benefits (Australia) Monday, 7 July 2003
The need for clean air and energy sources will be discussed at a special forum today at Cootamundra, in southern NSW.
The organiser, the National Party's Ian Armstrong, says there are massive economic and environmental benefits to be gained from using ethanol, which is made from wheat and sugar.
Mr Armstrong also says developing a renewable source of fuel locally will lessen Australia's reliance on importing fuels.
"I think that ethanol in petrol could help stabilise prices, and I must say the biggest common complaint I still get as I move around is still the price of petrol," he said.
"People just don't like to see petrol going up. Well, if you bring more competition into the marketplace, clearly you have a greater chance of stabilising a price in such an economy."
