June 12, 2003Blagojevich Signs Bills To Help Ethanol Industry (Decatur-AP) -- Governor Rod Blagojevich says legislation he signed today will help make Illinois the top ethanol-producing state in the country.
Blagojevich traveled to a farm near Decatur to sign bills meant to increase the use of corn and soybeans in fuel.
The legislation offers grants to ethanol producers, creates a tax credit for biodiesel fuels and extends the state sales tax exemption on ethanol.
Illinois currently has five ethanol plants, with a dozen more planned.
