June 5, 2003Senate Defeats Anti-Ethanol Amendments USAgNet Editors - 06/05/2003
The Renewable Fuels Association is applauding two votes by the Senate to defeat amendments to the renewable fuels standard fuels agreement. Two amendments introduced by Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA) were overwhelmingly defeated. Feinstein's first amendment would have provided authority to the administrator of EPA to waive the RFS requirement if the state or region concluded it was not necessary to meet the requirements of the Clean Air Act. It was defeated by a vote of 61 to 34.
The second amendment said the RFS shall apply to a state only if the governor of the state notifies the EPA Administrator that the state wishes to participate. It was defeated by a vote of 62 to 34.
