May 13, 2003SIMPLOT’S HEYBURN ETHANOL PLANT TO CLOSE IN THREE WEEKS The JR Simplot Company is closing its Heyburn plant in three weeks.
The factory makes ethanol, but officials say production is slowing down, because there are fewer potatoes being processed. Ethanol is made from potato by-products.
When the plant closes, nine employees will be laid off, but officials say they might be re-located to a different Simplot factory.
In the last twenty years, the Heyburn plant has produced about 25-million gallons of ethanol.
