April 3, 2003Voters Reject Plan to Build Cambria Ethanol Plant Wisconsin Ag Connection Editors - 04/03/2003
In December, about 50 farmers near Cambria protested in favor of a proposed ethanol plant by driving their tractors into town and blocking traffic in the Dodge County community for more than an hour. But their efforts were apparently not strong enough after voters rejected the project in Tuesday's election by a vote of 236 to 163.
The facility, which was headed up by Didion Milling facilities, was going to use about 14.6 million bushels of corn per year to produce about 40 million gallons of ethanol--plus 128,000 tons of dried distillers grains to be sold as livestock feed and carbon dioxide.
Supporters of the plant say they faced strong opposition from the environmental group STOP, or 'Stop the Ethanol Plant Now,' which was also successful in defeating another project last year in Algoma.
