October 29, 2002Michigan Ethanol Begins Production Plant is First Ethanol Production Facility in State
Caro, MI – The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) today congratulated Michigan Ethanol, LLC on completing construction on its plant. Michigan Ethanol, LLC is the first ethanol plant to operate in the state of Michigan.
Speaking to several hundred people at the plant grand opening, Bob Dinneen, RFA president, stated: “The state of Michigan consumes a great deal of ethanol and now they have an in-state ethanol supplier. I congratulate Michigan Ethanol on their plant start-up and welcome them to the most dynamic industry in the energy business. I look forward to working with them in the future to pass a renewable fuels standard and continue the rapid growth of the ethanol industry.”
Michigan Ethanol, LLC, located outside of Caro, Michigan, will process nearly 16 million bushels of corn per year into 40 million gallons of ethanol and 120,000 tons of distillers dry grains.
“Response by area producers delivering corn to the plant has been outstanding,” said Tony Simpson, Michigan Ethanol, LLC general manager. “Michigan Ethanol is looked upon as a new major marketing alternative for area corn producers.”
The plant was designed and built by the Broin Companies, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, that provide turnkey design/build, management and product marketing services to the ethanol industry. “The economic impact in the local and regional area will be significant,” said Jeff Broin, CEO of the Broin Companies. “Not only has the plant created a new local market for corn, it has provided new jobs and will spend millions of dollars annually in its operation.
There are currently 67 ethanol plants with the capacity to produce more than 2.6 billion gallons annually in the United States and 11 plants under construction.
