October 11, 2002Pro-Corn Completes Major Expansion at Minnesota Ethanol Plant Washington, DC – The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) today congratulated the farmer-owners of Pro-Corn LLC for the completion of the expansion to their ethanol plant, increasing annual capacity from 22 to 40 million gallons.
“Farmers have been leading the growth of the ethanol industry for the past five years,” said Bob Dinneen, RFA president. “I congratulate the farmer-owners of Pro-Corn on their expansion and contribution to U.S. energy independence.”
Pro-Corn LLC, near Preston, Minnesota, can now process more than 14 million bushels of corn into 40 million gallons of ethanol annually. In addition to ethanol, the plant produces 120,000 tons of Dakota Gold ® distillers dried grains (DDG). With the expansion complete, the plant employs 33 full-time workers.
“The expansion went smoothly and we were quickly producing at the new level,” said Richard Eichstadt, Pro-Corn LLC general manager. “This expansion will allow us to provide more value to local farmers and our farmer-owners. We also installed a state-of-the-art thermal oxidizer that will help maintain our record as a good neighbor.”
The expansion was handled by The Broin Companies of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. “We are extremely pleased with the results of the expansion at Pro-Corn,” said Jeff Broin, CEO of The Broin Companies. “Advancements in technology at our firm, coupled with the dedication of the employees at the Broin Companies and at Pro-Corn, have resulted in the successful expansion and startup of this world-class facility.”
Currently, 66 ethanol plants nationwide have the capacity to produce 2.6 billion gallons annually.
