March 7, 2002Ethanol Industry Reaches All-Time Monthly Production Record to Begin 2002 Over 128,000 Barrels per Day of Ethanol Produced in January
WASHINGTON, DC –The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) has announced that the U.S. ethanol industry set an all-time monthly production record in January of 128,000 barrels per day (b/d), according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The previous all-time record was set in November of 2001 at 126,000 b/d. Production was up over 10 percent compared to last January when 115,000 b/d of ethanol were produced.
“Monthly production records for the ethanol industry have become as predictable as the sunrise,” said Bob Dinneen, president of the RFA. “At a time when some question the ethanol industry’s ability to supply California or meet other demands, we have once again proven our commitment to providing an ample supply of clean, renewable fuel to the American public. There is simply no doubt that America’s farmers and renewable fuel producers can meet the growing demand for domestic fuels.”
The ethanol industry is expected to produce an annual record of over 2.2 billion gallons in 2002. Production capacity continues to grow as 13 ethanol plants are under construction soon to join the 61 existing plants. By the end of 2002, ethanol production capacity is expected to reach 2.7 billion gallons.
