August 2, 2000New South Dakota Ethanol Plant Construction is under way on a $44 million Dakota Ethanol L.L.C. plant near Wentworth, South Dakota.
The company is a partnership between the 965-member Lake Area Corn Processors with 89 percent ownership and factory builders, Broin and Associates, Sioux Falls, S.D.
When completed late next summer, the plant is rated to produce 40 million gallons of fuel-grade ethanol a year. The plant will be by far the largest in the state.
ACE 2000
Over 300 people attended the American Coalition for Ethanol's 13th Annual Meeting and Ethanol Conference held July 27-28th in Fargo, North Dakota. Attendees included representatives from ethanol plants, commodity organizations, businesses, rural electric cooperatives and public power districts.
The group heard reports from legislative leaders in Washington, D.C, including Eric Vaughn from the Renewable Fuels Association and Doug Durante from the Clean Fuels Development Coalition. Vaughn made headlines by indicating that he believed that some sort of renewable fuels requirement would be included in whatever bill Congress passes that deals with MTBE. Both candidates for governor in North Dakota addressed the conference and over a dozen legislative candidates attended the conference as well.
