October 9, 2001Midwest Grain Commenced Construction on $59 Million Ethanol Plant in Iowa Midwest Grain Processors (Hanlontown, Iowa), a farmer-owned cooperative with nearly 1,000 members, commenced construction in August 2001 on a $59 million grassroot ethanol plant in Kossuth County near Lakota, Iowa. Midwest Grain Processors has chosen Fagen Incorporated (Granite Falls, Minn.) to provide engineering, procurement, and construction services for the new plant.
The plant will produce 45 million gallons per year of ethanol using approximately 16 million bushels per year of corn as a feedstock. The plant is expected to create 30 new jobs and could generate revenues of about $70 million per year when it becomes operational in October 2002.
