July 19, 2000MN Lawmakers Push for E-85 Funding As a result of gasoline price hikes earlier this summer, a group of Minnesota legislators representing the Democratic Farmer Labor Party (DFL) hopes to gain $30 million worth of state funding over the next five years to install E-85 pumps at many of the region's gasoline stations.
There are currently about 40,000 flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) that can run on E-85, regular unleaded gasoline or any combination thereof, registered in Minnesota.
DFL legislators hope that a wider availability of E-85 and its traditionally lower price will attract more people to consider purchasing a FFV.
"There's no other answer to being held hostage than to put another fuel on the market," said state representative Ted Winter(DFL-Fulda). The lawmakers will resume their session in January of
next year.
