January 5, 2001U.S. DOE Launches Third Round of Ethanol Workshops The United States Department of Energy, throuh its Regional Biomass Energy Programs, has now entered the third year of sponsorship of the Ethanol Workshops Series. The workshops have now been conducted in over 15 states, with six more slated for 2001.
Ann Hegnauer, of USDOE's Office of Fuels Development said, "The Ethanol Workshops Series continues to be a very effective tool in educating people about the benefits of ethanol as well as providing an opportunity to help build consensus on renewable energy policy on a state and national level."
The workshop agenda's typically include a national overview of the industry, dicussions on what opportunities might be present within the state to assist in the development of an ethanol industry, and presentations on the availability of feedstocks. State policies both existing and proposed, available for renewable forms of energy, are also part of the agenda.
As the one-day workshop concludes, the participants work to reach general consensus on what the next steps should be and which individuals will take the lead role in continuing to move the issues forward.
Workshops for 2001 will be held in Idaho, Nevada, Maryland, New Hammpshire, North Carolina, and Iowa.
