Michigan (1999 EWS)

After holding a Workshop in both 1999 and 2000, Michigan's Ethanol Work Group continues to meet every month, ambitiously pursuing its goal of developing an ethanol industry in Michigan, the "Automobile Capitol of the World." Prior to the workshop in 1999, about 29,000,000 gallons of ethanol were blended annually in the state. Now, 6-7,000,000 gallons are used per month. The Ethanol Work Group has three subcommittees, so that all facets of the "drive" are well covered. An intensive campaign is underway to make owners of flexi-fuel autos aware that they can fuel with E85 and where it can be found. They are increasing their involvement with the Clean Cities program. Currently there are at least two proposed ethanol plant projects in the works.
